Habitat: Most often encountered in shallower waters associated with reefs. Distribution: Found commonly in the Caribbean and off the coast of Florida Natural History Notes: As life stage effects habitat preference in reef squids; one will find small juveniles close to the shore amongst turtle grass, older juveniles near reefs, and adults in depths up to 100 m (300 ft), adults will then return to reef areas to spawn. Also known to travel in formation. Depth: 1.5 - 100 m ( 4.5 - 300 ft ) Characteristics: Has a torpedo shaped body with frilling mantle and 10 appendages (8 short arms, 2 longer tentacles). Mantle is much smaller in juveniles than adults.
